This friendly and efficient centre has been built up by the family over the past 20 years into one of the largest centres in Ireland. The centre is located in suburban Dublin only eight miles from the city centre yet it is located in a very picturesque setting offering magnificent views of Dublin Bay. Carrickmines Equestrian Centre is fully approved by AIRE (Association of Irish Riding Establishments) the body that regulates standards at riding schools and equestrian centres in Ireland.

In March, we were forced to close for four months because our insurer was leaving the Irish market and as a result, our public liability insurance was not renewed. Similar to many in the equine industry and many other sectors in Ireland, we experienced huge challenges in accessing insurance, but we persevered and re-opened in late July.

Since then, we have restarted all our programmes and started new ones.

The Fettercairn Youth Horse Project has launched a funding initiative to help provide for some of the running costs and annual insurance.

The Horse Project, now in operation for 22 years, is a huge community resource in the Tallaght area and beyond.

While services are designed and delivered to a number of groups including local schools, youth groups and young people from socially excluded groups including Travellers, eighty percent of our service users at present are people with additional complex needs who rely and depend heavily on equine therapy. We offer inclusive therapeutic classes to young people.

We also host workshops and courses for young people who have in interest in sourcing further education in the equine industry. We support young people in achieving their BHS and AIRE exams; there are over twenty local youth volunteers that provide enormous help to the centre.

The Horse Project is open for general horse riding lessons to the public on Saturdays and on weekday evenings.

The Horse Project reopened to the South Dublin community on 25th July 2022. A huge “thank you” is due to all who helped to ensure that FYHP is able to continue providing much needed services in the area. All of the lesson slots have been fully booked from the reopening.

There was a great response from the staff, the community, statutory bodies and the business community, both before and after the reopening. This diary update of events gives an idea of the latest news.

We were most privileged to have the staff of Amazon Web Services come to the Horse Project to enhance our centre; there has been a complete transformation and upgrading.

The photographs don’t manage to convey the extent of the works and the spirit in which the work was carried out. The whole centre has been repainted, all new equipment for horses; headgear, horse rugs, equipment, the list goes on. A massive thank you is due to Tom and all the AWS team.

Cherry Orchard Integrated Youth Service is the primary youth organisation serving Cherry Orchard and has been operating since 2003.

It consists of our main stream youth service, our Youth Diversion Project called CODY and our new youth employment support service.

Cherry Orchard Equine Centre operates two services which offer family supports.

CODY our youth diversion project and Blue Door, who’s purpose is to fosters a safe community in Cherry Orchard through services that encourage people to thrive and feel a sense of belonging.

The Cherry Orchard Equine Centre is dedicated to supporting young people further their interest and love of horses and obtain state recognised qualifications.

We offer a variety of riding and therapeutic lessons to both adults and children.
